Everything matters if anything matters at all
But I'm firmly sticking with The Stranger for now. I want to make sure to have 12 episodes done BEFORE Nano so I have enough to post one every week, and I doubt I'll want to write them in November.
Once I get at least 12 episodes done, I'm not sure which I'll work on, exactly. My Nano project has changed once again :P but never fear, I wrote down everything important I thought of for Third World. I know, I've got to be the flakiest amateur writer ever, but there's just SO MUCH TO GET DOWN! I don't know which to do first. :D
You want the EPIC list of all my ideas that I REALLY REALLY want to do? You do? You don't? *glares over at the corner* Well, too bad, you're going to get them all ANYWAY!
1. Finish Jano-I like it the way it is now but it's too short. So I need to add a sub-plot or something.
2. Finish Hell Hath No Furies-basically I'm a loser and STILL need to research a lot of the technical aspects. Wah.
3. Tasliri-I've actually got a PLAN for this one, which I won't divulge here. Muahaha. But because of that, it's still on my "possibly WILL get done someday" list. And actually I'll give you a hint: this should actually be listed as two items. *horrified screams ring out*
4. The Missing Door-I've got like 10k done. :P But I love it so it will happen.
5. Dimension Tournament-omg love this story so much, IT WILL FINISH
6. Seven Sprites-I'm not sure if anyone's read this besides me. Hm. Well, it's been one of my most fun experiences, but very unfinished as well.
7. The Stranger-4 episodes done, gah I'm such a loser!!!
8. FF7 Fanfic-OH MY GOSH I'm SUCH a loser. But yes, I am still hoping to finish this.
9. Third World
10. HHNF sequel-planned out.
Oh and I got one of those fold-out portfolios to hold all my loose writing-related papers! It's all brown and blue and pretty. I lurve it.

my library is my dukedom
More importantly, last night, trying to distract myself from thinking about my wisdom teeth extraction this morning, I FINALLY thought up a plot of sorts for my Third World story. Yes, I've been wanting to write something based on the whole epic joke for forever. I don't have a plot, per se, really, but I have several characters, several scenes, lines of dialogue, and I know at least a sub-plot will be assassination of TW's ruler.
Yep. I'm pretty excited. I think I might save it for Nano, though.

It's like an explosion in a sequin factory!!!
But's it's crazy fun at the same time. I missed these characters and stories SO much, and I LOVE poking fun at the genre. I dunno, more than anything else I've ever written, I think the LS-ness will stick with me always. *realizes what she's just said* Gah I'm so cheesy!!! *facepalm* ;)
Anyway yeah, so having problems attaining to my mental standard of perfection. Not that anything I've written has ever been close to perfect, but I'm not even content with my best. I just keep thinking, "ergh, too much dialogue" "too much backtracking" "too much random crap."
I'll survive.

"I'm seein' art walking right out the door here!"
EDIT: The Loreli one is now colored :)
A couple of drawings of my characters, which I drew last month and just uploaded today:
Loreli-chibi version
Ramy
Enjoy my horrible drawing skillz. :P But aside from that, the drawings are how I see the characters.

"Gotta go. My parole officer needs to use the computer."
Anyway, The Stranger is going VERY well. I have 3,393 words written for it at this moment, which doesn't seem like that much but I'm putting quite a lot of work into those words, and I'm happy with them, which is a big deal for me. At the moment I'm having problems because my Creative Advisor hasn't been in touch and it's making me feel a little insecure.....but hopefully that will be better soon.

An exclusive look at: Ramy
1. [[What's your character's name?]]
Ramy.
2. [[How old is he/she?]]
Older than he looks. He's around 50 and looks 27.
3. [[Is your OC a boy or girl?]]
He's a MAN!
4. [[What's his/her race?]]
"A native of the Denlands." Basically means he's part of a particularly long-lived human race, for reasons not explored yet. Gosh, I can't explain EVERYTHING!
APPEARANCE
1. [[If this character were to suddenly become part of the 3D world, and ended up in a heavily-populated area, how many stares would he/she get?]]
Not many. Maybe some from silly girls.
2. [[Is your character considered normal in his/her own world?]]
Yes.
3. [[What would be his/her most recognizable feature(s)?]]
His amazing sense of fashion. "Let's, let's face it."
4. [[Would you consider your OC as attractive?]]
Yes.
PERSONALITY
1. [[Temper?]]
He's a lot calmer than he used to be, but he still gets righteously indignant rather often.
2. [[Does your character ever get depressed?]]
Sometimes, but not in general.
3. [[Leader or Follower?]]
Neither. I'm pretty sure he's incapable of leading anyone, and even more incapable of following anyone.
4. [[What is the main aspect of his/her personality?]]
His apparent shallowness.
HISTORY
1. [[Did your OC have a family of any sort? If so, are they still alive?]]
No family for him! I think they're all dead, or he didn't really know them in the first place.
2. [[Is your character out on his/her own? If so, why?]]
Yes. See, there's this thing where he's been convicted of several murders.....
3. [[Has he/she encountered any traumatizing events?]]
Again, the murder thing.
4. [[What was probably the best time in his/her life so far?]]
Back in the day when he worked for the travel agency.
ROMANCE
1. [[Single?]]
Yes. Like I said, he's kinda incapable of being with people.
2. [[Had your OC developed any romantic relationships?]]
Nope. He tried. Once.
3. [[Virgin?]]
I'm pretty sure....well...I dunno. LOL! Ramy, you little rascal!
4. [[Does your character like flirting?]]
Only for a purpose, ie, perpetuating his shallowness, getting into somewhere he shouldn't be.....
SYMBOLISM
1. [[What animal would you associate your OC with? (Sorry, no creatures of myth and legend allowed!)]]
A DRAGON! Oh, dang, no mythical creatures...lol jk he's no dragon. Hmm.....a cat? Probably, yeah. Only without all the tongue-cleaning business.
2. [[Musical Instrument?]]
This is a weird quiz.....hmmm....probably something like a clarinet.
3. [[Element?]]
I always get confused with elements, so I'm going to assume we're going with earth, fire, water, and air. Out of those, Ramy would be fire, or maybe earth.
4. [[Planet?]]
Like symbolically, or home? This category is symbolism, right? Right. So......well....hm....this is kinda hard. Probably Pluto, alone and cold, but totally awesome. Oh wait, Pluto isn't a planet anymore! Dang it.
MISC.
1. [[Do you draw your character?]]
I did once.
2. [[Do you write about him/her?]]
LOL well yes, yes I do.
3. [[Do you use him/her in any rpgs?]]
No. I didn't really think about it. Oh good grief, who has time, anyway???
4. [[What other ways have you appreciated your OC?]]
I....made him...a wallpaper? :P
RANDOMIZE!
1. [[Is your character wanted for anything?]]
Yeah, remember the murder thing? :P He's wanted for at least one murder, soon to be two more, along with a few manslaughter charges.
2. [[What are three weaknesses in him/her?]]
1) quick to distrust people and make rash decisions regarding them
2) As I said above, he doesn't normally get angry easily but when he does bad things happen.
3) He doesn't have a problem with black-market goods. Is that a weakness? I can't really think of another one.
3. [[Strengths?]]
1) One of the most hardcore Travelers alive.
2) Very intelligent: has great skills with technology
3) The few people he's gotten close to in his life he is VERY loyal to, even if he's not on good terms with them, he wouldn't hurt them.
4. [[Does your OC drink or smoke (etc.)?]]
I think he drinks. I'm pretty sure. I haven't seen him do it, but I'm pretty sure.
5. [[What's one quirk about him/her?]]
He loves oranges.
6. [[Does your character have any phobias?]]
Traveler-phobia: he avoids other Travelers. Cop-phobia?
7. [[What could you do to get him/her into a blind rage?]]
Tell him you were one of the dudes on the phone. He'll get it.
8. [[Does your OC like chickens?]]
Everyone likes chicken. Wait, do we mean to eat, or just in general? He's not an animal person, so no.
THE FINAL QUESTION
.Q. - What would you consider your relationship with your character to be like?
Uh. Is this like a personal life question, or like what parts of me are like him? We're pretty close, you know, *cough* we're like this &. Hahahaha yeah okay not funny. He's VERY fun to write. I'm not really like him, except for maybe that he doesn't wear his heart on his sleeve unless very very provoked.

"Precipitation aside..."
Haha no but seriously. I've written....two episodes and parts of two more. YAY! And I've been talking to Gaia about it a lot so the inspiration keeps coming!! Lots of joy and happiness. I love the lone stranger. True story.
So if YOU were the leader of a goblin legion, what would YOU do with your life?

Sir Spamalot
Your Inner Muse is Thalia |
You are most like this playful muse of comedy. Life is all about laughter to you, and you're a natural comic. You make people laugh until their sides split. And you're always up for some play time! |
Well that's....good. Although I'm trying to think pure thoughts about "play time."
You Are Punk Music |
You've thought long and hard about what mainstream society has to offer... And you've pretty much decided that most normal things aren't for you. You're creative, expressive, and likely to do things yourself. You are a rebel and a fighter. You'll defend your point of view to anyone. |
Yeah that's pretty true. Although sometimes I wimp out on the last bit.
You Should Be a Film Writer |
You don't just create compelling stories, you see them as clearly as a movie in your mind. You have a knack for details and dialogue. You can really make a character come to life. Chances are, you enjoy creating all types of stories. The joy is in the storytelling. And nothing would please you more than millions of people seeing your story on the big screen! |
Your Blogging Type is Confident and Insightful |
You've got a ton of brain power, and you leverage it into brilliant blog. Both creative and logical, you come up with amazing ideas and insights. A total perfectionist, you find yourself revising and rewriting posts a lot of the time. You blog for yourself - and you don't care how popular (or unpopular) your blog is! |
Those last two bits are INSANELY true. You'll never know how many times I edit my posts. :P And I really DON'T care who reads my blogs or how many people.
Affliction and Recovery
For now.
But yeah, I wrote a whole four pages last night before sleep, and I'm dying to do more. That hasn't happened in rather a long time.

2008-2009 Writing Project?
You saw him rescue princesses and defeat dragons.
You saw him conquer every villain of his land, stereotype or not, cliche or not.
You saw him win the hand of his love, and make up with old flames. You saw him befriend pirates, work with mages, sail the seas, fight monsters-
But what if you could see it all....again?
The Stranger
Coming Fall 2008
He wants your soul. Or does he?
After planning this, I realized Nanowrimo is in a few short months. Will that help this, or hinder it? Guess it depends on whether I make it a novel rather than a serial.

Project: To Hell and Back Again?
But I have two main problems that I'm encountering. One, okay, say that the all-powerful Greek gods wanted to take out a human. You know, under the radar, basically assassination. Would they do it themselves? Or, if they didn't, who would they send? Am I allowed to make up a character for that? Haha if I AM, that'll be hawt. If I'm not, I really need to find this assassin of the gods. Two, I have no idea who Perseus is. I mean, I know who he is as in who his father is and what he did and all that....but personality-wise, no clue. It's also going to be a challenge to make him a decent chap without making Dionysus a jerk. I mean, we all know he is a jerk, but he can't be too much of one. So yeah. Perseus will be hard.
But otherwise, I'm looking forward to getting back into that story. There's a lot of good stuff to come. And who knows, maybe Adrastus will make an appearance.

I'm gonna avoid the cliche, I'm gonna suspend my senses
Sunday, May 18, 2008
And then, inspiration strikes!
Wordcount I SHOULD be at: liiiiike 26k? Or something ridiculous? I have less than HALF what I should have. Not...good....and it should be fine, cuz I just have to do 3k a day, but....I haven't managed a 3k day yet. :P
Ramy....is still wonderful. And I fitted a "real person" in, as per the dare. I think the only dare I haven't done is the shiny jewel of doom one....hmm...and I bet I could do it. Maybe I'll do that today.
Hey...that's a good idea.....dude......"Suspected cause of death: Shiny Jewel of Doom!!!"

Because all the cool kids are doing it
Here's official descrips of my characters, both for my records and cuz Jas already did it. :P
Tara Vale: My supposedly main character but she's as boring as hell so far. She's small, blonde, idealistic, described as "naive" by those who don't "get" her, a Christian, and she has wicked aim. She's Blackburn's partner and has a tendency to do things by the book. And that's all I got on her. Sad, isn't it?
Vad Blackburn: I find it fascinating that when it's from Tara's point of view, she's called Tara, but when it's from Blackburn's, he's called Blackburn, not Vad. I guess just to show he isn't a people person. :P He looks like Tony Stark. I'm sorry. But he does. However, his personality is stoic, somewhat brooding, serious, thoughtful. He's pretty brilliant, as he's an agent AND a technician. He's also got some tragedy in his past, we don't really know what. Yay!
Ramy: I can't say much about him as he's one of the mysteries of the story, but I can say he has most of the funny lines, has excellent fashion sense in my opinion, and is suspected of destroying agency property and assassinating two agents. Junior agents are told to avoid him, senior agents are told to detain him. :P And he has no known last name, that's not a mistake.
Director Fors Evinteen: Don't think about his name too hard. Just don't. This guy is possibly even more personality-less than Tara, but he WILL get one. I have deemed it so. So far he's been your basic director-of-agency template, and I DON'T mean in a Rufus Shinra type of way. Although, who knows, he might turn out like that.
Falkner: Yes, I have yet ANOTHER dude named Falkner. This guy, though, is pretty funny and I *think* he's a good guy...although with this story I know only a little more than any intelligent reader will. :P Anyway he's an agent, he shows Tara around initially. I'm not sure if he's going to come back.
Petria: What's with the Phoenix Requiem vibe, anyway??? I guess I like the names. This chick is in charge of supplies and gear and such nerdy things....she's good with gadgets and has those big black-rimmed glasses.
I even fell for that stupid love song....
*ahem* Hi. I haven't written anything siiiince...Sunday. Yeah. Um. I really have no excuse.
BUT!!! (haha I said that in my last post, I remember) I have not given up yet! I refuse to lose. Re. Fuse. I haven't lost before and I don't believe I'll lose now (super duper bonus points for whoever can figure out what quote that is modified from!!!). I have a plan. I just gave up the whole-catching-up thing cuz that obviously isn't happening....I wish I could have pulled off a couple of 5k-days though, that would have just made everything so much easier. But yeah, so I'm just setting a new day-by-day wordcount for me. It's 2,270. Which, all things considered, isn't too bad. Now if I can just force my fingers to move in word.....

I hear it's flowing with milk and honey
BUT! Today and tomorrow we'll be in Portland, so that's four hours of driving. I plan to write a LOT longhand in any and all moments free.
*must....catch up...*

"What can I say? I'm a talented individual."
I also managed to put my MCs in peril, which was severely lacking. I'm pretty revved for today, cuz...well yeah, I kinda made myself stop at a cliffhanger yesterday, which was an excellent idea.
So I have this pad of paper on my desk, and whenever I had a thought about future events of the story or plot points or character points, I would give a loud cry of EUREKA (Actually not, because that's a dumb word....more like a loud cry of "YAAAY GOOD IDEA!") and grab the paper and jot it down. I now have like seven of these papers covered all over in tiny writing.
That's all for now, I'll probably be back later. My goal for today: break 8k.
Thursday, May 08, 2008
"Hey guys, you know what a really good book is?" "SOKKA'S INSTINCT! Wait."
Wait. Maybe that's a good idea....
Speaking of names, the director of "the agency" needs a name-rewrite as well. *facepalm* I took the "streets I know in Ottawa" theme a little too far.....
I realized Blackburn looks exactly like Tony Stark. I haven't actually WRITTEN his facial description, but he does in my head. Weird. Especially because their personalities are POLAR OPPOSITES!!! *le sigh*
I have almost 3k written, and my goal is to have 6k by the end of today. It's time to do some catching up, ladies and gentlemen. My plan for doing that is incorporating all of the dares so far issued. *nods* And I want to get my Team at least as far as Kiffon, story-wise.

"The idea of you fighting a Jedi is ridiculous
I also figured out a lot of what's going to happen in the upcoming chapters, which is good. Before, I had a vague idea of where the plot was going to end up, but absolutely no idea on how to get from point A to point B. I still have no idea, but I can see the ground in front of me. I've also successfully introduced all three of my MCs, with a couple of minors to boot. The twins have disappeared: they were in planning stages to be part of the main team, buuuuut it doesn't make sense for them to be anywhere. So...they might show up later. OR they might be the poor cannon fodder I have lined up for later. :P But probably not, I like them alive.
I still love Ramy.
And YAY for foreshadowing!
Monday, May 05, 2008
It had "Don't Panic" written in large, friendly letters on the cover.
Wordcount I SHOULD be at: technically 8,333, but since we have 31 days I could get away with being at 6,667.
Scenes: 2!
Characters introduced: 2 main, 1 minor who hopefully I will never see again, hahaha.
Good quotes: zero.
Music: Chronicles of Narnia soundtrack and Mozart. :P Neither seems to be helping.
I officially love Ramy. I can't decide about Tara. And I'm excited to meet Blackburn. :D
Something mildly interesting: a lot of history and random references are making it into this story. I mean, fictional history for my world(s). It's kinda strange. So far we've had "temporas" (objects that have something to do with time and world-travelers like to have them...that's all I know so far), the "Dagand Fiasco", and various other worlds that I have no idea what their significance is.

Wow I'm useless

Haha I keep trying to write and, therefore, keep distracting myself with other things.
The above is something I made in photoshop to procrastinate. He's the only character I've actually introduced so far, and he's not even a main one. Well, I don't think he is. I can't remember where I got the background, but the two artworks are by (you guessed it) Ramy on Deviantart.

"Do we really have everything under control here?"
Title: The Missing Door
Wordcount: 1,051. Hm. Hm.
Scenes: 1!! Yay!
Characters introduced: 1 main dude, well I think he's a main dude, and a random guy. And lots of expendables. *rubs hands together*
Bodycount: At least one dude fell into a dark chasm of nothingness. It was pretty awesome.
I am totally failing this month. BUT! We have an extra day, and it is only May 3rd, after all. :D

More than ever hour after hour work is never over
I keep staring at my blank document, but nothing's happening. Maybe I'm expecting the Holy Spirit to guide my fingers again: I dunno.
Do you even have a plot?Um, yes! Well, I mean, kinda...it's just a little rough....sketchy....completely absent except for a strand in my brain......
Wednesday, April 30, 2008
I may appear fragile, but I am in control!
Am I ready? Hell no.
I did fiddle around with my characters last night, mostly appearance-wise. I figured out how the agency's uniform looks, what kind of equipment they have, etc. I also realized there is another character. He was kinda hanging out on the world-pathways waiting for me to notice him. It's kinda silly though, because now I have five MCs, only one of which is female. Should one of the twins be a girl? *ponders*
I also have the first scene briefly sketched out, but really...as far as most of this plot goes I have a complete blank. It's kinda scary. Well. I'll just remind myself of the quote that the rough draft is for finding out what your story is about. *nods*

girl descrip
"She was walking in front of me on Rideau, chattering away to her boyfriend. The first thing I noticed about her was the black-edged, bright teal star tattoo, right on her left shoulder-blade, where these things often are. It was about the size of a silver dollar.
After drawing my attention, she continued to fascinate me. She was thin, short, and sauntering. Yes, sauntering, I’m using it as an adjective. She had short dark hair drawn up in a pony-tail that stuck out behind her.
She was wearing faded black jeans, held up by a black metal-studded belt, along with a black tank top. A bright purple bra strap was trying to escape on one side. A lime green Puma bag was slung over one shoulder, with a black hoodie, in turn, slung over the bag. The hoodie had black stars printed on it."

Pants are an illusion. Like death.
Actually I already finished my lit paper, I just need to edit it. Vigorously.
But we also have a lit presentation. I have....3/5ths of it done. :D It's actually really amusing....I'm happy.
I've got about three chapters written of the previous story....I'm very stuck. What kind of weapons would come out of pockets? *falls into deep thought*
Anyways, almost done with this!!

Your name is Clay? Can I call you Dirt for short?
Despite having no time whatsoever just now, when I attempted to do the whole writing-a-bit-each-day thing, my muse decided that I should start a whole new story!!!!
It's a great story, as they always are at the beginning. Sigh. Well, I'll just try to have fun with it while I can. One thing I find fascinating about it, is the names. They're definitely not the usual kind of names I use....they're goofy. Not leet at all. You wanna know what one of my two leads is named? Guess. Haha no seriously, guess.
Varesh Elm.
That's right.
Varesh.
Elm.
Double-yoo. Tee. Eff. The only explanation I have to offer is that I was thinking about Varnish at the time, and Elm just seemed to go with it.

It's time my enemies shared my dread.
#1:
Me?: So, Captain, how do you feel about being an albino? Does that bother you?
Ramos: Excuse me? I’m NOT an albino. I have blue eyes, see?
Zarcael: I’m prettier than you anyway. Admit it.
Ramos: I get the girl. Ha.
Zarcael: ....
Ramos: Pretty boy...
#2:
Me?: And we’re back to interviews between two fictional people. Joining us today is the beautiful Salya ji’Eluim, working under the pseudonym Tamila Olem, and Cirx Mordan, hawkfriend and smuggling extraordinaire. Thank you for joining us, Your Highness, sir.
Tamila: honored to be here.
Cirx: Yeah, honored.
Me?: What is your view on death?
Tamila: If someone brings about the death of someone else, it must be avenged. I will not be responsible for anyone dying.
Cirx: it comes to everyone. I hope to die at peace with my life, in the cause of something good.
Me?: What do you think of Zarcael?
Tamila: he’s a good man brought up in the wrong place.
Cirx: He’s a brilliant commander who causes trouble for us.
Me?: State your opinion on freewill. [dang this question is hilarious to me]
Cirx: We get dealt a hand and no matter how good or bad, we have to deal with it as best we can. We have a choice to make every day, and we can’t blame the morality or lack of on surrounding people or circumstances.
Tamila: I agree but sometimes we are driven to a very hard choice. It sometimes seems as if there is no choice: we must do this. But that is just our nature speaking: it would be unnatural to do anything different.
Me?: What’s your favorite color and why?
Tamila: Crimson. It’s bold, daring and fiery! Uncompromising.
Cirx: Blue: as big and clear as the sky.
Me?: What is your most prized possession?
Tamila: Possessions are unimportant. But my most needed is my sword.
Cirx: My spear. Very handy.
Me?: You’re not being honest, C.
Cirx: Ok, ok. The lady’s locket.
Tamila: You are a man after all!
Me?: Most important person in your life?
Tamila: Ramos. He’s always there for me and knows the whole of me.
Cirx: Ghent is my constant companion. But a person? I’m more of a loner.
Tamila: Yeahhh we’ve noticed.
Cirx: Don’t hate, ma’am.
Me?: What do you consider your occupation?
Tamila: Reluctant commander.
Cirx: I’m a jack of all trades, eh? Smuggler, trader, merc, master of fast communication…
Postscript:
Me: "So does this mean I get to call you Master Cirx now?"
Cirx: "You certainly can."

Fight the good fight, precious!
My next paper is for science. Basically it's supposed to be an explanation for why evolution doesn't work, preferably in the form of a dialogue. I'm scared to start writing it, cuz I want to be witty and impress JP, but I think I need to just write what I know, and insert wittiness later if I can. :P
OH and I got an inspiration for a short writing project...I might post it here when I'm done cuz it's *supposed* to be short...but we'll see...
Thursday, March 27, 2008
You'll understand what I mean when I say there's no way we're gonna give up!
So, what am I up to, writing-wise? For now I have two more research papers for school, as well as a mildly creative piece for Lit.
For May I think I've firmly decided on writing my "Missing Door" plot. I'm gathering other plot-bunnies by the cartload, but I won't talk about those just now. I'm a little disturbed by how many sequels I could write. Like, I have two different sequel ideas for "Furies", a potential one for Tasliri (haha which I haven't even FINISHED yet, bleh), and at least one sequel for the jano (this one is almost completely formed in my mind).
Old projects status: Episode CCXII probably will never get looked at again. I didn't do my usual "let's spontaneously create a million continuity errors as I write!" thing so it's basically how I want it except for basic spelling and grammar errors, which I don't care enough about to go and properly fix. I think my next editing project will be finishing off Hell Hath No Furies, because it's in pretty good shape as it's in, and I'd just like to put that one to rest. The Jano is as good as it's going to get for now. Someday I'd like to go and add a lot more to it, because it's rather short, especially the end.
Tasliri.....is my curse. It has so many problems as of now I'm not sure when, or if ever, it'll be done. I'd like to, though. I really would. I owe it to Zarcael, if no one else. :P Cirx is BEGGING for his own story, too. *SIGH*
Besides big projects, I want to get in the habit of writing like a "sketch" each day. Just a short-short story, or a short descriptive/expository piece, just to keep me writing somewhat creatively every day, because I feel like my skills (the little I have :D) have been slipping lately.
How much time do I have for all this? ABSOLUTELY ZERO! Nada. Zip. Negative. I live in a dimension of negative-time. It's awesome.

"We were against the British and the Indians who were, like, scalping us."
I am so ready to go home and actually have time again to write fiction. Have I mentioned that? Sup-ah. Jasmine and I are going to do a novel in May, which is going to be amusing because I'm having my wisdom teeth out so I'll be on drugs part of the month, and I'm also hopefully going to Disneyland. It'll be good times. I think I'm going to do the Missing Door plot though, and save Eros for Nano. Or vice versa. GAH I don't know.

When I get bored, I rummage in my computer's bowels.
But yeah I just randomly decided that I should gather all my short stories I've written over the years, just so I have them in one place. It was entertaining finding them all. So many goofy ones. Good times though. I'm going to possibly....well....*pokes them* Not really sure if I should try editing them, cuz a lot of them are so old it would be kinda pointless. They were good at the time. Anyways I want to read them all through today. :D wheee.....*wanders off*

You: lighten up. You: big trouble. You: get in the car.
What I've never understood about that quote, is when was the FIRST Apocalypse? Did I miss it? Dang I wanted to take pictures....
Anyway so yeah, papers. My philosophy one is painfully coming along (think blood. Lots of blood.). My art paper is most likely going to be on Michaelangelo, cuz he's on the list and I like him. Scriptures is going to be Chrysostom, Aquinas, and Luther on some as-yet-unknown topic. I thrive on NOT knowing what I'm doing. Lit is going to be on Milton, and whether we should read him or not. I'm a Milton supporter. I support. *nods* Andddd let's see what's left....Science. Yeah. Science is going to be on evolution. At least that one I know exactly what I'm supposed to be doing. w00t.
So yeah. Should be a fun month.

What do you think?
We are the Augustinians...
neither living nor dead.
We are not rational
But super-rational
We do not conform...
to the pattern of this world...
nor follow the utilitarian path...
of the intellectually stunted.
We do not settle
for what the world decides is true
Or take what we see
for granted.
We look beneath the surface,
Inside the cover,
Through the glass
We are the Augustinians...
neither living nor dead.
We are not rational
But super-rational

"Well, I woke up again...."
Once again I am suffering from post-writing depression, so to help that I'm editing my...Nano!!! Wheee!!! I've already decided chapter three is totally DUMB and needs basically a complete rewrite. Although I remember thinking that when I wrote it, so it's expected.
Dionysus is still amazing. :P:D I'm glad that I still like my characters, I'll be honest.
OH so question of the day!!! Should Adrastus (anyone remember the guy? Actually I guess the question is does anyone even READ this blog? haha) be fifteen, as I originally wrote, or twenty-twenty five, as he ended up at the end of the story?

And with that, the twin suns set.....

(look in the lower left-hand corner for the wordcount)
w00t! Never talking to them again.
Haha just kidding...but I really don't think I should proceed with the project any farther, since that goes back into LQ-ish timeline, which I have not been a part of...and as far as I can tell, the Sith keep winning. So I'll just end here, with the happy hope that the good guys win. :D
More than ever hour after our work is never over
So I'm basically done with everything I wanted to do/planned to do. BUT I realized I DITCHED Bre and ran off without her, so I'm going to visit her, anddddd do another ending-ish scene with the other characters. Hopefully that'll put my wordcount over the mark. O.o Otherwise I'll have to get real creative.
I've only done TWO dares this time around. I am ashamed. *sniffles* I might try to work the Dionysus reference in, and possibly do one of my dares, but yeah.

You're crazy!
I know that you're on the inside
You know that I'm looking out for me
You're sitting pretty
As I wallow in self-pity
And there's no coming back for me
Chorus:
You're crazy for thinking I'm above this
You're crazy for believing I don't care
You're crazy for thinking I'm below you
You're crazy, you're crazy
My ambition and every intention
Is to go where I shouldn't go
Pleasing to my eyes
Through a wretched reply
It's soothing to my soul.
I'm actually really concerned about what that says about all three of them.....but I think Luna's theme song is also "Getcha Good" by Shania Twain....hahaha. "You're a fine piece of real estate and I'm gonna get me some land."

Go meet your public, Poster Man.
w00t. w00t w00t.
Speaking of w00t, I found out recently that it stands for "We Own the Other Team." Random. I just use it as a super-generic YAY!
Right, so writing. Over 25k. Me. Happy. :D
Basically all that needs to happen in the story is Loreli to get traumatized, recover, and then the whole declaration of war thing. "Oh, oh I love declarations of war! Drinks all around!"
Larien is super fun to write. Oh and I introduced Alik! Well technically he was in it earlier, I just didn't say his name cuz Loreli didn't know his name. But wow, I love his character, go Christina. *cough* Yesh.
Feeso is kind of an idiot. I didn't realize how much of an idiot. But he's definitely coming across as a total loser. *sigh* ah well. In my heart I know he's a super l33t snipex0r. So it's okay. I think.
Take your best shot I bet you'll miss
Anyways. I basically have a LOT of boring stuff left, and then one jolly scene, and then I'm done. This is like....not even a story. It has no beginning and no end, no buildup and no climax. Hm. Well. That's just funny to me. BUT it was good therapy to get out all this about these characters. I feel like they kind of have a purpose in life now, a little more depth, and know who they are and where they're going. I deem this good.

This is what it means to be held....
Enjoyment level: 9/10. :D
I am having way too much fun, let's just say. It's such a great opportunity to do so many things with the LQ-universe that I never got to. Larien si Torin made her entrance today....rather a random epiphany-"HOLY COW LARIEN SHOULD BE HERE!" I miss her. *sniffle* My first Internet buddy. I also introduced three completely new characters, all mechanics. They shall be friends with Eukrie. I have deemed it so. :D
Meanwhile, Feeso is getting hit on by Luna, Loreli is ready to shoot some Jedi, andddd the galaxy is just not in a good state. :P

Stop it, you're so silly! Silly Corellian!
Yay, I've caught up a bit! I approve of this.
I'm having a *tad* too much fun on Corellia, and having SUPER awkward conversations without meaning to. Or am I? I don't even know. Even when *I'm* writing Luna's character she turns out obscene.
I'm also having fun reconciling what *I* know about the Corellian Sector with LQ's many misguided problems. Corellia, in all the time periods I know of, is an urban planet, ruled by the Empire and then democracy. I'm reallyyyyy struggling with how they have royal family now. But!!! I've solved the problem, by making this time-period OFFICIALLY centures later than the normal time. Probably Luna's ancestor invaded the planet and set himself up as dictator, and they just never got kicked out. Amazingly...enough. So anyway, based on Luna's description of her palace, I also have to figure out the transition of the architecture. It's all very fascinating and fun, I have to say, making up centuries of history, for little reason besides wordcount. w00t.
And I decided to just NOT talk about how Luna was randomly a Sith for a random time for random reasons. Well, personally, I think she just got tired of Jedi men and wanted to try Sith men, but I am overly biased. We'll let the past die on that one.

Roll credits!!! *Star Wars theme plays*
Lightsaber Quests: Episode CCXII
A Phantom Hope (wahaha see, it's like, The Phantom
Menace, and A New Hope, but mixed!!! *crickets chirp*)
Loreli Scrye, once a powerful Sith Master, has at last switched allegiances with the help (and therapy) of Thea Dorvin and Jaden Karton, themselves experienced Jedi. Loreli decided to stay with the Sith for a time and pass on information to the Grey Jedi faction (of which Jaden is the head) for a time. When the Sith decide to launch an all-out offensive against the Jedi base of Yavin IV, Loreli has to make her final choice.
Loreli passes on the information to Jaden Karton barely before the Sith invade. A short but bloody battle follows, and despite Loreli’s warning, the Jedi are driven from the Jedi Temple, which is then destroyed. The Sith return to Coruscant, while the Jedi prepare to gather again on Corellia, ruled by a Jedi princess, Luna Morisson.
Loreli, wounded in battle with the Sith warrior Desdemona, flees Yavin IV along with the other Jedi. On her ship are also Bre Ryder, a young Jedi student, and Eukrie and Feeso, two Chiss warriors with a life-debt to Loreli.
Meanwhile, old enemies lurk in the vastness of space, ready to take advantage of the situation…
They'll catch you and give you a weapon.
BLEHHHH I'm super behind. My computer ate some of my words last night, which did not help.
But I figured out more what the POINT of my story is! YAYYY!!! I also went back to the beginning and wrote a brief "What has gone before", because.....my story starts in the middle of randomness, and continues throwing in millions of relevant references to LQ as it goes along. :P
I am officially done with "Part I". Now I'm on part II.......I'm just not quite sure what the plot is. It makes me laugh though, because the first part was all action-y, with villains hellbent on revenge, etc, whereas the second part is going to be mostly Jedi intrigue and attempted seductions. w00t!!!

Everyone is still alive, amazingly....enough. I love how once Loreli wakes up, she totally makes up for her absence by stealing everyone else's "screen time" completely. I keep having to literally force myself to go back to Bre, or whoever, that I need to cover.
I'm also angry, because lightsaber duels are HARD to write by myself!!! LOL I'm so spoiled and used to LQ/WotF where you only have to do half the creativity, and the other person takes care of the rest. I just sound redundant making two characters fight each other. Maybe I should recruit Katie or Christina for this. Hey, that is actually a REALLY good idea. I bet Christina could pull out some hawt moves. :P

"Ohhhh.....this explains a LOT...."
So this is another quiz I've taken before, I've actually taken this one three times (what??? Don't stare at me!! it's a good one!) and managed to come up with the same result all three times.
Take the Villain quiz.
Paranoia
What type of Fae are you?
I'm glad to see it's a slutty-looking creature! Which means I...am NOT!
I took this quiz on July 8th, 2006, and randomly found it again today and decided to take it. Fascinatingly, I got the same result despite not remembering any of the questions or answers I gave before:
What type of Fae are you?
In the end, as the darkness takes you, you realize: you are nothing.
All?
Yes, that's right, I am COMPLETELY caught up!!!
Wordcount: 11,183
Which leaves less than 1000 for today. I wrote 2180 words yesterday! cuh-raze-ay.
My story is going well, I think....only today I have to write a duel, and I'm not excited about it. I basically have my characters in a pretty intense corner, and I have no idea how to get them out of it. :D P'haps they shall all just die.
Oh yeah, and I gotta kill/injure someone with a chair, an ornamental statue and a rug. I could try to work that into the duel, but they're in the torture room...they'd have to get to more civilized areas.

Today, salute, mile, serve, deep.
Jasmine: "I just shot one of my characters."
Stephanie: "Mine all got mind-raped."
Jasmine: "Oh."
LOL it's like the ultimate case of "I'm meaner to my characters than you are!!!"
Anyways writing is going ishily.
I'm going to steal from Jasmine again and give a brief run down of my characters:
Feeso: is liiiike 34? I think. I forget. He's pretty annoyingly serious and sometimes gets annoyingly noble, too. He has sniper skillz and usually follows orders better than Eukrie, his brother. I luff this guy.
Eukrie: is 31 ish. He's more optimistic and humorous than Feeso and likes bombs, muahaha. He's developing an older brother protectiveness of Bre, which was unexpected but I think it's cute. Wonder what he's gonna do when they get to Corellia....
Loreli: 33, in this story. She's basically in charge. Sometimes she's bossy, but she's kind underneath, and she has uber Force skillz. She is veryyyy protective of Feeso and Eukrie. Which is probably disturbing but I've never thought of it that way.
Bre: Mmm like fourteen years old. She has a disturbing capacity to remain calm in scary situations. She's very sensitive but not very skilled in combat.
Zafara: She's my villainess. She's kinda scary and getting scarier, for sure. OH she's the one that has/had the voice like silk rustling over a corpse, lol. She also has a vendetta against basically the entire crew of Loreli's ship.
Dasser: Name subject to change, he's Zafara's second in command. He's pretty hardcore.
No idea on ages of Zafara and Dasser, but I think Dasser is like in his forties somewhere, and Zafara probably in her thirties. Oh yeah and they're all human except for Feeso and Eukrie, who are Chiss. w00t.
EDIT: this is my sixtieth post in this blog! wow!

"Is douchebag a curse?"
Because of that I'm feeling more inspired again about where this is all going. Yay. :D
Saturday, February 09, 2008
"I was about to be hanged, it seemed like a good idea at the time."
Haha okay it's not that exciting. But I decided its working title shalt be "Midway to Corellia." I was trying to think up a witty way of saying "this one time when we had a pitstop on the way to Corellia" but couldn't really think of one, so you get the much less witty Midway to Corellia instead. *cheeky grin* The major problem with this title, of course, is that it's SUPER similar to all the books in the Corellian trilogy's titles. Dang it.
In related news, the bad guys are suddenly going to Mustafar. I'm not sure if I approve of this. I mean, I don't even know WHY in the world these particular villains would go to Mustafar, but....I dunno, it seemed like a good idea at the time! I might change it. Although I fear if I changed it I would revert to my default planets, ie Mimban or Myrkr. What's with all the Ms???? GEEZ!! But yeah I've definitely never been to Mustafar....wait yes i have, once when LQ began. That doesn't really count though. Cuz...she basically grabbed Des, got in a ship, and left. "I'm guessing that's significant."

ohemgeeiamstill NOT GHEY

Uploading this here because Jasmine said I should show off my Photoshop skillz. It's my character on the LQ and WotF Rpg boards.
Speaking of Jasmine, I'm glad she's enjoying herself with all this writing-ness. Cuz otherwise, I'd feel guilty. "You know, I just...I just feel bad, cuz you're gonna get fired."
ihavesomethingimportanttosayandthatisthatiam NOT GHEY
BUT I think I'm going to the villain's POV...cuz I really have no idea who she is. :P Good times. And it might make things a bit more interesting.

BLEHHHHHHHH
....
*cries*
Maybe I should go back, and make them get all bloody in the losing part....hahahaha yeah don't think that would help anything. Wah. I'm basically not scared of my villains at all, and my "heroes" are just like "Well, it's okay, because...well, you know, death isn't that bad." and then the little girl is just.....ZERO PERSONALITY so who knows how she feels about everything.
*headdesks*
I suppose one blessing AND curse is the fact that Loreli has been unconscious for the entire story so far. The blessing is that I can finally solidify Feeso and Eukrie's personalities, and learn a LOT more about them. The curse is that I KNOW Loreli best and so it's hard to NOT write from her POV. Wah. I want her to wake up.

Morbid and creepifying, I got no problem with.
....
What exactly is that saying? In the story? About me?
The rest is silence.
Hi.
Iiiii am not yet caught up. Wah. I'm currently on 4,095 words, I should be at 6,000 at the end of today. So technically I'm only 905 words behind, but that still means I have like 2k for today. Wah. No tiiime!!! zomg no time.
However, I finished the first "big scene" of the book. They've successfully been completely PWNED in the space battle are about to be taken captured. Taken captured? Is that right? No, taken captive. LOL! yeah. I'm an idiot....but we already knew this.
La de da...in other writing news, finished Horatio in time for Restless Hearts last night, and it went off tolerably well.

Mmmm still a bit behind but not too worried about it. I got this. It's all under control, lol.
One thing I think WHRN need to work on is their emails. Last year the theme was "love story" and this year is "crime novel." Which renders the emails completely pointless and uninteresting if you're NOT writing that.
Whatever. I don't even like BBC Scotland. ;)
Oh man I'm so excited about torturing someone in this story. "OMG TORTURE YAYZ!" Again, I haven't tortured anyone since Kip (in the Mei Cysyr one, lol!). Unless Ramos counts....he only got the snot beat out of him, though. One time.

"You know what they say, familiarity breeds...uh, well, contempt, but..."
I had sooo much pleasure writing the ending. I'm very happy with it. *pats* The whole thing still needs a lot of work, but right now I'm just enjoying fangirling about everyone and everything in it. I think I might add a few more scenes.....like, more action creature-kicking scenes. Maybe some sort of scene solidifying Jack and Georgie's....whatever feelings about whatever. I don't feel like I did a very hot job of developing their friendship. And by hot I mean "skilled", not....whatever it is you're thinking. lol.
Anyway this is just me rambling, but this is what this blog is after all. I like the Hounds, I want to extend their scene. I want to give Ian and Josh some more "screen time" but....I think that might be over-doing it.

"This is turning into a very bad habit."
Although I HAVE made good progress on my essays as well. I just have about.....half of my metelski, and the philosophy one.
But yeah the short story I wrote...was really fun. And it was just enough to "whet my appetite" so to speak, to find out more about the characters. Cuz I really have NO idea what time, world, or anything it's in. Or what's going on. Or who anyone is. :P It's great. Plus there's like a ton of blood and action.
I think THAT'S my problem. I wrote a whole NOVEL last night without any death, except for Aegeus, which was told by someone else to my MC, so now I'm like going into severe bloodlust or something. Wahahaha. I mean, my two novels previous to this have had extremely high bodycounts, what with wars and monsters and all that.

Novel: pwned.
Yesh. I am happy. Too happy to express in a blog.
And actually, it's kinda fascinating, because I'm both relieved and burdened cuz now I have another novel-length manuscript to edit. O.o I'm also kinda sad cuz.....no more spending all my spare time with Dionysus. haha.
Peace out.

Come break me down, I dare ya! *music overload*
Pretty much my wordcount is....ermmm......over 46k. :D:D Which leaves less than 1000 a day from here on out!!! I'm thinking, maybe, possibly, that I can finish tomorrow, since both of our classes have been canceled. But I dunno. Maybe I should spend the extra time on studying.
But yeah I went to the coffee shop and wrote two 500-word random scenes to stick in, and then thought up another one which I wrote when I got home. :D I'm rocking this thing. And two of those scenes were HILARIOUS and I'm really happy with them. :D The other one was mostly word-padding, but oh well. I haven't even resorted to pirates or ninjas yet!!! O.o I was thinking I would have to today. And of course, there's always Leoj Arbod and Arthur Dent when I REALLY get off my rocker. :D
But yeah, feeling encouraged. I'm thinking it might be possible to finish this thing without resorting to disturbing and shady circumstances. haha.
Playing missmustang videos in the background is very stimulating to my creative processes, as well. You'd be surprised. *shameless plugging* Haha.
Oh man. Dionysus and the cats....priceless.
So yeah. I'm gonna win. Win this. Watch me. :D

The End. And then some.
4k day, baby!!! That's what I'M talking about!!! :D Or even aboot!
Yeah so went to a write-in today. I'm really sad cuz the one at Second Cup near me got cancelled, and they're planning the after party to be in South Keys where I'd have to bus to, soooo I don't know if I'll make it to anything else. Wah. Ah well. Twas fun.
But YEAH!!! I wrote 4000 words! WHEEEE! Which brings me up to 43k, cuz I barely wrote at all yesterday. I officially reached the END of my story, though, which is bad but somehow isn't fazing me at all right now. I decided I'm going to go with the alternate ending deal. The first one will be "Pirates of the Mediterranean" and will feature Theseus and his Greeks. They'll discover their inner pirate and....well I don't know quite what they'll do yet. And then the other alternate ending will be "The Way of the Ninja" featuring Ariadne and Dionysus, cuz, come on, you always knew they were secretly ninjas. Haha.
Since I have about 7k left, I'll just have to write 3500 on each of those random side-stories. I think that's doable.
Oh yeah, to reach 43k I also went back and added in a couple scenes that I had considered doing before but didn't happen. Yays. I'm impressed my story lasted to 43k: I was expecting it to barely reach 35k. :P And hopefully when I go back and edit, there'll be lots of other scenes that I can add to. We'll see.
And having finished it, I feel like I've got a pretty decent story-arc, even if a lot of segments are rather crappily written. A lot of things will need to be added in, like I need scenes establishing the other Greek's personalities, cuz I really had no clue who they were when I started, and then at the end they suddenly all had lives. Haha.
But yeah, overall I'm SUPAH HAPPEH! :D

"What do you need the scoop for? Burying a body?"
Sanity: Wacko? I prefer unbalanced!!
I was walking to the mall this morning, and to keep myself from thinking about the cold part I ran through the rest of my plot in my head. It was actually VERY productive. I had been trying to decide how to wrap up Theseus' plotline, and also if/how I should wrap up the 13 youth's ....whatever, not really plotline but their fates, and I figured out how to do BOTH simultaneously, and it ended up being kinda cool too. So I'm happy. I haven't written it yet but I know what's going down.
I did finish the curse scene yesterday. That was good. Good progress. I've barely written today though because I think I'm going to finish. O.o Dang.

"Did you kill anyone?" "No...but I was ABOUT to!"

Wordcount: 38333
Sanity: Very very strained.
Body count: BIG FAT ZERO!! This category is seriously affecting the one exactly previous.
Sooooo I'm still deathly afraid of my plot running out. I'll be honest. :D But Evan and my dad gave me the good idea of pulling a PotC:3 once my main plot is done: just make everyone pirates and do random things. That sounds like fun. I also could do an "alternate ending" with ninjas. :D You know it's a good idea. Just admit it.
But yeah Ariadne just woke up...I have to do the curse scene today...which I've been looking forward to for FOREVER bout now of course I'm afraid to do it in case I mess up.
Plus I'm not sure how much of Catullus I want to use in her curse. ARGH so complicated. Be strong. Must be strong.
Yeah but overall tis going well....once she curses, I can kill off a certain person. w00t! Bloooooood.....bloooooooooooood.
The full quote from the title of this entry:
"You two LEFT me in that den of sin! And Flippy was in there trying to kill people!"
"Did you kill anyone?"
"No....but I was about to!"

Like nothing else in the world
(my homework suffered a bit, but it's okay!!!! That's what the weekend is for!!!)
But yeah, you should all go to my nanowrimo profile and read my new excerpt. Eros is pretty much....hilarious. I love him.
Yeah so I caught up completely, to 35k!!! YAY!! And had tons of fun doing it. I'm still terrified that my story is going to finish before 50k, but I'm making a list of random scenes to go back and do, so I think it'll be okay. I really haven't been word-padding that much this year. No flashbacks, limited rambling, and only one or two dream sequences. :P
Anyway so yeah I'm very happeh abouts this. OH Adrastus was cool this time, too. I....yeah I like him again, haha. Ariadne's just kinda a moron, but she gets her sweet curse-scene soon, so it's okay. :D
Man, it's all coming together.
This, my friends, is why I write.
Fangirls, Egan M., and Nano-Numbness
On what topic?
Kuro/Fai fangirls. Seriously....ENOUGH, you debaucherous women!!! I swear, I'm going to explode one day from righteous, righteous, RIGHTEOUS anger. Men can be friends! It's true! I know it's hard to understand, but they can!!! Sacrificing limbs for your friends does not mean you're GHEYYYY!
Holyyyyy cow.
All right I'm done. Sorry, I know this is my writing blog, I just....am feeling emotionally strained in that area. LOL!
Ok so onto writing!!!
Here's something I posted on my personal blog, in response to a request for dirt on my older sister.....I thought it made sense to post it here as well.
The Mostly Fictional Adventures of Egan M.
Episode One
Disclaimer: Scandalous content used for comic purposes only, as well as to drive site traffic through the roof. Any resemblance to any persons, real or fictional, is mostly incidental and in no way my fault.
Egan M. was the very wise sister of a neurotic blogger. She lived in a vast barren desert and worked at a hospital. Living in her apartment with her were a small fuzzy rodent named Frosh and a slightly attractive cactus named Lepidus. Lepidus was not Greek, contrary to popular belief.
But this story is not about Lepidus. This story is about Egan M.
Egan M. also had a boss who communicated solely through fuzzy-quality conference videos with audio that sounded strangely remixed. This anonymity of her employer gave her some unease once in a while, but as Egan M. was in the medical profession in a vast barren desert, she did not feel it was important.
Egan M.'s life consisted mostly of bossing medical students around and being bossed around by senior doctors. She was often ordered to work late nights. Usually when she was working late nights, all alone in the vast (but not barren-there were lots of babies) hospital, her boss would call her and give her orders. One night, during one of these calls, her boss cleared his throat in an important way. "I have something to tell you," he said.
Who is Egan M.'s boss? Is she secretly working for a crime lord? Why the heck is Frosh in this story?
To Be Continued....
Yeah total randomness.
As far as Nanowrimo goes......
Well....it's kinda fascinating. Cuz everything was going fine, until I was like, "Dang it, there's no way my plot is going to last for 18k more words." So then I just kinda screeched to a halt. It's like by not writing, it'll stretch out to more words? lol. Sigh. I'm going to work on it though. Get 'er done.
Plus plot-wise I'm in the drug-happy moment before the trauma. :P Once I get into the trauma it'll be more fun.
9 days!! w00t!

Don't even talk to me about handmaidens.
Story-wise I accomplished a lot as well. I got them OFF of Crete (You don't even know how exciting that is) AND I got to write like THREE friendly dancing scenes! LOL! One of those being Ariadne and Dionysus, which was pretty much the funnest thing ever, cuz I love both of them. AND I got Adrastus a girlfriend, which just makes EVERYTHING better, LOL! So I no longer want to kill the poor guy. He can live.
*Adrastus breathes huge sigh of relief*
This is a random note on my writing style. When Susan proof-read my story for lit a while back, she noticed that I use commas a LOT! Like, a heck of a lot. Once she pointed it out to me I noticed it as well, and now I can't STOP noticing it! Haha. So as I've been editing Absence I've been deleting ALL commas unless they're crucial to the grammar. Yay! You'd think I would do that before, but you'd be surprised the amount of ways a comma can justify it's existence!!!
So altogether pretty happy about my writing life. :D The only thing I'm worried about is I really don't know if my story is going to last to 50k, especially considering how much I covered today in 3000. :P

"This isn't fear. This is anger."
I just made the HUGE mistake of going through all my word docs related to the different stories I've written.
.....
I get attacked by SO many plot bunnies. Usually I'll get about 10 pages in, and then stop. But I keep them around, cuz there's some good things in some of them that I can use in the future.
Anywho. My complaint is my completely ambiguous outlines. A really old project, a fan-fiction actually (I can't believe I'm writing a fan-fiction.....but that's a defense for another day), that I really want to finish someday cuz I think it's got something there. Anyway, at the time I wrote like a half-page outline, so that in case I stopped working on it for a while (as I did) I would know what my thoughts were. But then, tonight, when I read it, it was SOOOO amibiguous! Pretty much NO help at all. It describes ONE big scene pretty thoroughly, and then, hahahaha, says, "Takes on other jobs. Eventually they find out about something hidden-" and then goes OFF into this other dude and what he's doing.
WHAT. TEH. HECK. I have NOOOO idea what that's even ABOUT! I know it's important to the plot, but besides that......something HIDDEN? *hysterical laughter*
Ohhhhhkay. So that plot needs a *tad* more help than I thought. Like, a lot. And I have noooo idea how to help it really at all.
Besides *that* doomed project, I edited a few more pages of my jano today in between classes, and I'm at 26,667 for my Nano. *happiness* For today I should be at 28,333, but I'm going to write-in tomorrow and am fairly confident I can get it all done there. They're almost...off...Crete. That is my ultimate goal for this weekend. Get them OFF the freaking island.
Oh yeah, Adrastus got SHOT! :D *happiness* I can't kill him, but I can sure as HECK bloody him up a bit.

"He's the brains, sweetheart!"
Good times. But I've almost got my word quotaaaa for the day. Happy day.
Who knew ancient Greeks were also skilled barristos?
Sooo yeah we'll see. I'm going to try my darndest, though.
Current locations of my main characters:
Ariadne: in prison (dang it, you're my only female lead, whatcha DOIN?)
Theseus and Adrastus: sneaking into the palace to rescue Ariadne (despite not knowing WHERE she is or if she's even arrested....all very contrived and confusing me a LOT!)
Dionysus: in Athens??? Whatcha DOIN, man??? Eating dinner with the king and TALKING and yelling at Celia when you're bored?? Lamesauce, man, lamesauce.
They just all have problems. They either have too much conflict going on or absolutely none. That's okay. We'll be okay.
In other news, I decided (as a creative exercise) to go through and name ALL fourteen of the luckless Athenian teenagers. Up to now I'd named like, three of them, all of those male. So I've got names for all now, and descriptions for about half of them. When I edit I'll have to add in some bits so that they're at least not a faceless nameless mass of Greekness.
OH yeah so last night Rosie and I went to Second Cup, and I took my notebook cuz I wanted to work through a scene in longhand for once. When we were there there were five employees behind the counter, three of them blond chicks and two of them VERY Greek-looking guys. So again, for entertainment, I decided one of them was Elpidios and the other one was Adrastus. Good times. And then I wrote down what they looked like, and made some further deductions on Adrastus and Elpidios' personalities based on those guys. Very educational. And they really DID look like how A and E looked in my head. Kinda creepy. Like Adrastus is the smaller, "pretty" one, and Elpidios is all big and ponderous. Fascinating. I wanted to use the chicks working, too, but none of them looked Greek at ALL. Hmph.
Note: I actually personalized this blog today! So you'll see a bunch of new stuff on the right, including a list of my projects, helpful writing books I use, links, etc. I'll add more stuff as I think of them. :D

ROAR! Come on, work with me!!!
YAYYYSSS!!
*throws confetti*
Wonderful feeling.
And now I'm officially BURNT out. So I shall sleep.
Random character updates: Celia now must die. Adrastus is continuing to justify his existence. Elpidios is a man. Dionysus is insecure, emo, AND obsessed.
*sigh*

"I refused to acknowledge Fun-Man."
w00t!
Finally finished the minotaur fight scene today. :D Basically I had to get up early for Latin class and was suddenly struck with the NEED to finish it. So I sat down at my desk and Kendra helped me through it. That girl is helpful, I'm telling you. ;)
So that's all done. I'm very glad. Adrastus justified his existence, as well, so that's good.
But now I'm suspecting that I'm about to get stuck again. Dionysus is trying to sweet-talk Aegeus into spilling some beans, and I can't help thinking that a god would have a much more efficient and speedy way of doing it. Hum.
AND I have no idea how the Athenians are going to get out of the cave without getting slaughtered. Stupid Makidon. He wasn't supposed to be this smart, honestly. Sending soldiers to the stupid entrance....gah.
Sorry, I'm being incomprehensible. Long and short of it, I am mildly enjoying the story/characters, and it's going along pretty well. I have pretty good hopes of wrapping this up in a month. :D

"It fills my heart with sarcastic joy."
I had another unexpected character pop onto my screen today. His name is Proteus. I hate him.
......
I'm just feeling a bloodthirsty need to kill off someone. It needs to happen. The problem is, all of my characters are NOT expendable. Usually I have an armyful or a schoolful of nice fresh expendables. Not so in Greece! :P The only people I can even possibly kill are Makidon and Gregorios, who are evil so they're not even fun. Proteus, I could kill, but he's just a random kid at the palace, so that wouldn't be even be fun.
I'll be honest. I really want to kill Adrastus. Dang it. I liked him a lot when he first appeared, but we're really just not working out. Rofl right now he's screaming like a woman at Theseus to kill the Minotaur. Idiotic. And the more I try to keep from being an idiot, the more of an idiot he is!!
GAH!
Ok. I'm good. I'm really jealous of Amy and Christina's novels, actually. They're doing fun ones.
Now that I've complained and said absolutely nothing interesting, I'm leaving.

Bow-chikka wow-ow!
He could get killed by the Minotaur-unoriginal, but effective.
He could get killed from Fury-backlash, I'm thinking an illness on the ship on the way home to Athens.
He could get killed by DIONYSUS!!! I don't know how, or WHY! But he could!!!
Haha yes I have problems. BUT I'm all caught up now, thanks to the write-in!!! I love those things and highly recommend them to anyone doing nanowrimo. Do it. Go. :D
I've also figured out a ton more stuff for my MCs to do, should I run out of plot before 50k. :D All in all, it's looking good folks.
"You haven't killed anyone? Stephanie, are you feeling all right?"
I'm not sure HOW I am only 500 words behind. That's like some sort of magical wordcount miracle. If you read my other blog, you know how busy I've been. Most of those words have been filler, though. I'm right in between two actiony places and I just can't make myself be VIOLENT! Haha.
The good news is, during the icon lecture last night I worked out some future plot issues, so that's good, especially since I've had a nagging feeling in the back of my mind that I'm not going to make it to 50k from pure lack of things to do, but I added several big bits to my outline so I think I might be okay. Might. The other good news (wait, that first one was good?) is that I have a write-in this afternoon. I'm not sure how much of it I'm going to, cuz we have the film night tonight and no one seems to know when we're leaving, but yeah. So my goal for the write-in...let me think. I think I got a bit over 3k in 21/2 hours last time, soooo I should get at least 2k done. At least. And that'll bring me back up to on track. That's if I don't just stare at the screen for two hours. :P
Adrastus is still alive, for people who care about him. Wahahahaha. I think that's my problem, I haven't KILLED anyone yet.

Guess he'll die another day
Deaths: none yet-I'm seriously considering killing of Adrastus one of these days. I think I'm getting weak in my old age, cuz he'd be a PERFECT dude to die, it would be super traumatic for most of the people in the story, but.....I don't know if I can do it. :(
Sanity: Strained.
As you might have noticed, I've written virtually nothing in the last couple of days. There's two reasons for that: this week is like five times as busy as a normal week, and it's Week Two of Nanowrimo, which is the worst week ever. But I'm not behind YET, thanks to my sweet leaps ahead in Week One. I am so together this year.
My favorite character to write is still Dionysus. :D He's so entertaining.
Plot-wise, I've completely exhausted every possible thing they can do in Crete *besides* fight the Minotaur. I think that's my problem; it's a hard part. Cuz it's big. And very action-y, which I've never excelled at. :P
But, alas, there's nothing else for them to do. Off to fight the Minotaur, they must go.

"Me and Adrastus did WHAT?"
Deaths: Still none, although I'm not sure how Gregorios survived *that*
Sanity: I am 100% certain of my sanity. Which is a bad sign, because crazy people never admit they're crazy.
Ok so I think I need to knock on wood after I say this, but like...this novel is coming so easily for me. I've only had two brief (like, extremely) crises of writer's block. I mean, I guess a lot of it is the fact that I have a solid (even if it's pretty broad) outline. But even so, I'm having a LOT of fun with this one. There's a lot of room to mess around with everyone. And all my characters are consistently fun to write! That might change, but 12k in, I'm feeling pretty good. :D Usually by now I'm ready to throw them all down a large dark hole in the ground. :P
The fact that I'm basically still two days ahead doesn't hurt my general feeling of happiness either.
The only problem I'm having right now is that I can't look two of my characters in the face anymore. LOL! I like them, but....yeah. After somebody made a certain comment about them, they're hard to write in the same place cuz I'm just WAY overthinking their behavior. Whew. Good times, having awkward silences with your characters.

Swing a little more on the devil's dancefloor
Deaths: none yet
Unexpected characters: 3, Adrastus, Elpidios, Gregorios, and Mikadon. Adrastus is my fave. :D I think I'm unconsciously drawing a lot of inspiration from Matsuda from DN for Adrastus. He's really earnest, likeable, naive, and cowardly so far but I think he's going to get braver. That's why I chose his name, which means "courageous." Gregorios and Mikadon are going to be in the "Deaths" category eventually, mwahahaha. Dionysus is going to have to deal with them, the baddies.
Caffiene consumed: Not much, I think two Barqs since I've begun?
Sanity: Surprisingly healthy.
"He's like all the Greek gods rolled into one!"
I got a good start, writing more than 3000 words the first day (the daily quota is 1667). Yesterday I only wrote about a thousand more, so today I still have only about 700 to write. :P The first week is always the best though, because you're all inspired and junk. I'll slow down a LOT next week. *cringes at the thought of week two*
My story, for anyone who doesn't yet know, is a novelization of the Greek legend of Ariadne and Theseus and the Minotaur. Basically Theseus and some other Athenians are going to be fed to the monster Minotaur, but Ariadne falls in love with him cuz she's an idiot and helps him kill it. Then they all escape and after a few more adventures, Theseus abandons her on an island. Pretty emo stuff. But, as my RA says, "But then she gets to marry the god of wine, so who's complaining?" ;)
There's a lot of creative wiggle room outside of the legend, fortunately, so I've been inventing a few characters and plan on doing more. I've got Adrastus, one of the Athenians. I have NO idea what he's going to contribute yet, but he's named, so knowing me he'll do something. And then there's Celia. According to what I wrote the other day, she's "one of those women who could just slither into men's laps." She's a Maenad, so meh, can't expect much better.
My most amusing moment so far was putting Dionysus up on a statue of Zeus. Basically, I was writing about a feast that the Cretans were having, and I needed Dionysus up high somewhere where he could see everyone, and just thought "Dude! Zeus! A statue of Zeus!" Which works cuz Zeus is Dionysus' father, and basically an idiot, so it makes sense D would sit on him. :D I just have giggle fits every time I picture it. *feels nerdy* Dionysus and Celia are just really really fun to write.
Theseus is easy to write, surprisingly. From the way I'm writing him, overconfident, overnoble, and kinda a foolish hero type, I think I can realistically imagine him abandoning Ariadne later, given the right reasons.
Ariadne is being very problematic. Like, the story starts out and almost immediately she's falling in love with Theseus and deciding to go so far as to abandon her family to help him? It seems very unrealistic to me, but there's no way to develop her character before this without having a long and random like....history chapter on her. *Sigh*
So in a nutshell that's how that's all going.
Saturday, October 27, 2007
The forecast is looking stormy and foggy, folks.
I'm doomed.
I've got a ton of big projects coming up and I can't seem to get any of them done ahead of time. I don't know where the time goes. Sucked into the vortex of Youtube? Possibly.
Anyway. My novel this year is going to be a novelization of the Greek legend of Theseus, Ariadne, and the Minotaur. Yays! So location-wise we've got Athens, Crete, andddd Naxos. Yes, I'm doing the Naxos bit. Basically this Theseus guy, after Ariadne's saved his life and helped him save his country, ditches her on an island. It's awesome. And then the god of wine flies by and thinks she's pretty hawt so they get married.
ROFL that's my novel in a nutshell. Well, that was my first plan anyway. I'm still doing that, but after researching all these people I found out all sorts of fun things about Bacchus. Like he goes to Hades to get his wife and his mom back after they die, anddddd lots of fun stuff. W00t. So I guess I'll see how far I get in the story, and if 50,000 words gets me to the end of Naxos, fine, but if I need more words I'll go farther. Pretty much super excited.

Nanowrimo is almost here! Yays!
